MEET THE CANDIDATE - Terry Ives for Guilford Town Councilman

I am running for reelection as Guilford Town Councilman.

As a Town Councilman, it has been and will continue to be my job to listen to all town residents and then look at solutions which benefit the town as a whole.

My wife Julie and I own Greenview Farms, a family farm that has been in our family since 1851.  We have four sons and two daughters.  I am a 1974 graduate of Oxford Academy High School and a 1977 graduate of Delhi Ag & Tech.  Julie and I attend the Smithville Center Christian Church where I am Chairman of the Trustees.

I have served Guilford as a member of the Town Planning Board and Guilford Town Board.  I am also Chairman of the Chenango Co. Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board which advises the Board of Supervisors on agricultural issues.  Other boards and committees I have served on include the Chenango Co Cooperative Extension and 4-H committee. I serves Chenango Co. Farm Bureau as a Director and President, NYS Farm Bureau Dairy Advisory Committee. For 25 years I have served on the American Dairy Association & Dairy Council as a director. I served on the New York Dairy Promotion Advisory Board which advises the Ag Commissioner on the use of $12 million dairy promotion funds.

I believe we need to keep our families and business as strong and possible.  We need to be mindful of taxes and over regulation and how they can affect our way of life,  I believe in the rights of the landowner to use their land as they please, as long and it does not negatively impact their neighbors and the community.  I believe in the freedoms which our Country gives us.

My Grandfather, Paris Ives was once interviewed and quoted in Money Magazine as saying  "Those who have the ability to serve their community, have an obligation to do so."
